Perry has the father of actor Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut in television shows in the role of Jackie Harris, a character that was played by her mother on the ABC show Roseanne. Her parents, however, did not let her perform until she turned an adult due to the negative effects that stress could have on their daughter. Perry was a shy teenager and did not act. She began acting in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was moved from Boston University. Following her graduation, Perry relocated to New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts on series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led her back to California where she found theatre jobs. The Other Place was performed by her and her mother in 2013 on Broadway in 2013 She performed with her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. In 2017 she had an recurring role in the ABC drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. In the same year, the actress was selected to play a younger model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger version of her mother's role. The actress was chosen for the role despite her close relationship with the character's family.
